Depersonalizing, dehumanizing patterns of living often reduce interaction to an exchange of goods and information. Caregivers who take the time for noncrisis, face-to-face visits, resist these cultural forces. Visitation for the purpose of nurturing relationship and fostering faithfulness is, in my opinion, one of the most caring acts of contemporary pastoral ministry.
